lyrics

Rain taps at the ground. I wonder what's that sound,
Growling overhead?
There's a grey marching o'r the sun;
The air is warm, an interruption has begun.

Leaves waver at the sigh of a warning breath, a mourning cry.
What is this that howls?
There's a fear riding on the breeze;
Like the beasts before I think it's time that I retreat.

What is this?

Thunder marres the silence;
Lightning scars the air.

Rain drums as the ground. Thunder's shout resounds
Through this shattered air.
My heart sprints as I run.
My mind is fear; O Lord, I am undone.

What is this?

Thunder marres the silence;
Lightning scars the air.
Thunder marres my laughter
Lighting scars the air.

about

Jacob Goins Brasstown, North Carolina

Jacob Goins is a poet who dresses his words in delicate melody, carefully designed. Born and raised in the Appalachians, Jacob fashions folk music that shares the gentleness, the rise and fall, and the golden peacefulness of the North Carolina mountains.

In every humble effort, he strives to make art that doesn’t sing over the quiet, but rather sings with it.
