lyrics

With fists unfurled, with new eyes blinking, I'm awake; I'm awake.
Oh, to see clear! The curtain's drawn away, if but for now.

When wandering winds are traveling through with their watercloud companions, I'll watch the trees wave and waiver; I've got no mind to speak out loud.

Like my own, the branches break, the trunk moves in uncertain dance; How strong, how true with the roots prove against the wind? Against the squall?

With fists unfurled, with hands at my side, I'm aware, I understand; If but for now.

I'm coming home to a peace under a restless sky,
Crashing sky; Beautiful lighting sky.
He is here.
My fearless friend;
My reckless end;
My helper friend.

What hand have I on the path of stormclouds? When they come, where they go?
I know I glide on wings not mine, not by my own breath but His.

'Content' is a word I rarely see, It hides behind a swirling wind, but I feel it now; With open hands I bear in mind I am no force alone.

I'm coming home to a friend under a restless sky,
Crashing sky; wonderful lighting sky.
He is here.
Surely He is not safe,
But He's my safety.

So water come wash, hydrate and rave;
Clouds come on, come what may;
I pray not for a storm for these roots,
But for roots to match this storm.
Give me roots to stand this storm;
Give me roots to stand this beautiful storm.

about

Jacob Goins Brasstown, North Carolina

Jacob Goins is a poet who dresses his words in delicate melody, carefully designed. Born and raised in the Appalachians, Jacob fashions folk music that shares the gentleness, the rise and fall, and the golden peacefulness of the North Carolina mountains.

In every humble effort, he strives to make art that doesn’t sing over the quiet, but rather sings with it.
